Hi, in this Sonic Reset, we’re going to be exploring one tool that can calm the parasympathetic nervous system.

This system is what’s responsible for our resting functions and for promoting our gut health.

It’s basically the opposite of our fight, flight, or freeze responses.

Humming can be a really simple, yet effective technique to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

And we’re going to jump right into it, so get into a comfortable position.

Take a breath in and out.

As the melody changes, feel free to hum along with any part that you notice.

And don’t worry about humming a particular note.

It’s the vibrations themselves that have the calming effect.

Try to bring your attention to these vibrations as you hum along, noticing them maybe in your chest or your throat, or maybe somewhere else in your head or body.

These vibrations that are created through humming can help stimulate the vagus nerve, which plays a really important part in regulating the parasympathetic nervous system.

Keep humming and see if you can make yourself just 1% more comfortable.

Maybe that’s shifting to a new position.

Maybe closing your eyes while you hum, if it’s safe to do that right now.

Take a big breath after your next hum in and see what it’s like to hum your breath out.

So give yourself a chance to hum for the rest of this song.

You can hum along to the background hums, or just make it your own.

Just bring your attention to the vibrations.

And be curious about whatever effects you notice, whether it’s mental clarity, a calmer heart rate, or something else.
